What I'm Reading
O.K., I'll address the "blog topic of the moment" in hopes that others will too. The ICFL Community blog has so so much potential -- Let's all use it! As I write this, there are eight "guests" who are at this moment visiting the community blog. After you've read, log in and post what you're reading. Please? And all of you other community members -- log in and post! Rah Rah Rah!

Happy New Year!
Well, it’s that time of year again: time for the dreaded New Year’s Resolution. I actually don’t mind making resolutions, because I purposely keep them easy to I can actually achieve them and not feel bad about myself (things like cleaning the storage room of my house or don’t kill my sister if she comes to live with me).

Why use your own photo?
I love it when people post their photos in their profiles! It helps me connect faces with ideas and it really helps when I see them at conferences! Speaking of conferences, I hope to see you at the Spring Regionals!

open-source checkout
I've been setting up an open-source ILS; we are still in the testing phase. However, yesterday after helping one of our students with materials location and selection, I asked if she'd mind my using the new system to check out the materials to her. She didn't and so, I did. I never thought I'd be so excited and happy about a simple circulation transaction!

How Will eBooks Change Libraries?
I have a strong preference for reading books on my iPod Touch. Using the free Stanza app, I've been downloading and reading books in the public domain like crazy. Now a bookstore has been added to the Stanza eBook reader, and I'm thinking of buying books.

Wimba is fun!
I just love Wimba because I get to see all my favorite librarians without having to travel a long, long way!

Let's Talk!
Last night, the Twin Falls Public Library hosted our last Let's Talk About It! program. I, for one, am excited. This means I get my life back: my schedule goes back to normal and I get to read what I want (although the books we picked this year were very good, they weren't my usual, and I really really really really need a good bodice ripper right about now).

Asking the Right Questions. Or, Missing the Target?
I was watching television the other day and noticed a commercial for a clothing store. They were using a song that was popular when I was high school 20 or so years ago. My first reaction was something akin to “darn kids, they keep reusing and remaking our music.” I figured the retailer was trying to reach out to today’s teens and twenty-somethings, using fun music, bright colors, and images that flashed on the screen. Clearly they were using scenes from my youth to entice today’s youth. I was wrong.
